Thanks to a grant from the Town of Norwood for an air purifier, San Miguel County approved a reopening of our breakfast area!  We are still at 85% capacity for short-term stays, but are so happy to announce a small 'return to normalcy' with reopening the vending area, lobby, and continental breakfast.  We look forward to seeing you again in the near future!

We ARE open during COVID-19!  The BackCountry Inn is open for business according to the regulations by the San Miguel County Public Health Department.  We follow a strict cleaning schedule and waiting period between guests.  We cannot offer vending, ice machine, or breakfast services at this time per the Public Health Order, but our rooms are ready for you!  We are not currently allowed to have any stay-over service for guests staying more than one night, but we have an after-hours telephone number for guests to call so we can meet your needs.  Please call with any questions and we look forward to serving you at your home away from home!

August 5-11: Telluride Chamber Music Festival This year, the festival will include the Telluride Classical Youth Ensemble!  For more information, visit August 8: Top Chef and Taste of Telluride 10th annual evening festival where participants embark on a culinary tour tour of the area, paired with wine, beer, and cocktails. Plein Air Festival: June 30-July 6.  This festival is about painting in the outdoors and open air. This is a fundraiser for SAF, which is a non-profit created to restore and preserve the Sheridan Opera House. This festival is free.  For more information, visit

Saturday, June 1, 2019 is a busy day for Telluride and the surrounding communities.  The Hot Air Balloon Festival starts off at 6:15am in Telluride Town Park with the inflating of the balloons.  There are 20 balloons this year and they will take off-weather permitting.  Then, at 9:30am at the park, Telluride will be celebrating Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day with horse wagon rides, costume contest (think bonnets and straw hats,) hot dogs, burgers, and drinks, as well as a fishing contest that starts at 11am!  Fishing gear will be provided to kids under age 9 at 10:30am.  (For more information on that, call Ken Vann at 729-1125.)  Then again, from 8-9:30pm, the balloons will fire back up for the Main Street Glo!  Make sure to bring your camera!  The balloons will also inflate again on Sunday, June 2 at 6:15am for those who must miss the Saturday events!

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife is sponsoring a women only weekend where women of any experience level can come and enjoy the fun.  The "Cast and Blast" is for any woman over 18 years old and will be held June 21-23, 2019 at the Miramonte State Wildlife area.  Women who register will learn basic fly fishing, shotgun shooting, archery, wildlife watching, and camping skills.  All food and equipment will be provided EXCEPT camping gear and a fishing license.  They are only accepting the first 15-20 women who pay a refundable $40 deposit to Darlene Trainor.  Darlene can be reached at (970) 252-6000 or by e-mail at   Hurry so you don't miss your spot!
